IS MORMONISM A CULT?

“Those Dangerous Mormon Teachers”

Watch out for those clean-cut, neatly dressed, courteous young men, who have an Ivy-League appearance, but who are propagating the blasphemous teachings of the cult of Mormonism. I would like to share some of their teachings from their own speakers and writers:

                1. They, according to Apostle Bruce McConkie of the Mormon Church, do not worship Jesus. McConkie says, “We worship the Father and Him only, and no one else. We do not worship the Son and we do not worship the Holy Ghost. Christ worked out his own salvation by worshipping the Father.” (BYU speech, 3-2-1982)

                2. They, according to Mormon author James Talmadge, reject justification by faith. Talmadge said: “The sectarian dogma of justification by faith alone has an exercised an influence of evil.” (Articles of Faith, p. 479)

                3. They declare, “No salvation without accepting Joseph Smith.” These exact words were written by Joseph Smith in Doctrines of Salvation.” (1:189)

                4. Ridiculer of God’s Grace: Spencer Kimball, the living prophet of the Mormon Church said, ‘One of the most fallacious doctrines originated by Satan and propagated by man is that man is saved alone by the grace of God; that belief in Jesus Christ alone is all that is needed for salvation.’” (Church News, 4-24-1971).

                5. No heaven without Joseph Smith’s approval. Early Mormon leader Heber Kimball said of Joseph Smith, “He has passed beyond the veil, but there will never be a person in this dispensation enter into the celestial glory without his approbation.” (Journal of Discourses 4:119)

                6. They believe that man becomes God. One of the famous statements in Mormonism is: “As Man is now, God once was; as God is now, man may become.” Lorenzo Snow, the fifth prophet of the Mormon Church said this. (Ensign 2-1982)

When one examines the blasphemous teaching of the Mormon Church, and how unscriptural it is, we recognize the truth that Satan blinds the minds of native people, who reject the blessed and simple truth of the Gospel but embrace the lies of the wicked one.”

 Other Unbiblical Mormon Teachings

                (a) Joseph Smith holds the “keys” to the “mysteries” of God: “And I have sent forth the fullness of my Gospel by the hand of my servant Joseph; …and I have given unto him the keys of the mystery of those things which have been sealed, even thing which were from the foundations of the world.” (Doctrine and Covenants, 35:17-18)

                (b) All existent Christian churches/denominations are apostate: “Nothing less than a complete apostasy from the Christian religion would warrant the establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.” (Introduction to the DHC: 1:XL)

                (c) No Salvation outside the Mormon Church: “If it had not been for Jesus Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation. There is no salvation outside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.” (Apostle Bruce McConkie: Mormon Doctrine, p. 670)

                (d) Adam was Michael the Arch angel; Adam is our God and the Father of Jesus Christ: “Adam was Michael the Arch angel and he was the Father of Jesus Christ and was our God.” (Mormon President, Brigham Young. (Wilford Woodruff Journal 12-16, 1867)

                (e) The Bible is corrupt, unreliable and insufficient: “The Bible of the Old World has come to us from the manuscripts of antiquity—manuscripts which passed through the hands of uninspired men who changed many parts to suit their own doctrinal ideas. Deletions were common, and, as it now stands, many plain and precious portions and many covenants of the Lord have been lost. As a consequence, those who rely upon it alone, stumble and are confused.” (“Come: Hear the Vice of the Lord,” The Ensign, Dec. 1985, p. 55)

                (f) Acceptance of extra-Scriptural Revelation: Brigham Young’s words are the Word of God. “I have never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the children of men, that they may not call Scripture. Let me have the privilege of correcting a sermon and it is as good Scripture as they deserve.” (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, 13:95)

                (g) Salvation procured by Christ in Gethsemane, not Calvary: “The water represents the blood Christ shed in Gethsemane where he atoned for the sins of all men.” (Discussion 1, The Uniform System for Teaching Families, p. 56). “It was in Gethsemane that Jesus took on Himself the sins of the world, in Gethsemane that He descended below all things so that all could repent and come to Him.” (Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p.15).   The above is just a sample of the numerous cultic unscriptural doctrines/precepts of Mormonism-the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!!
