ANOTHER NEW-EVANGELICAL UNIVERSITY MOVES

CLOSER TO APOSTASY

"Anderson University Holds First On-Campus Dance"

The above title and other similar titles constituted the headings of recent newspaper articles that appeared in several newspapers in Indiana and various national press associations in Jan. 2007. The articles were especially noteworthy, since the Indiana based school was founded over 90 years ago in 1917 as an old-line historic Holiness school, with the strictest student standards, by the holiness based Church of God denomination with headquarters in Anderson, Indiana. Churches and active believers associated with this denomination were widely known for their old-fashioned moral standards, modest apparel and adherence to personal and ecclesiastical separation.

For several decades, after its 1917 inception, dancing, card playing and movie attendance were forbidden activities by official school policy. However, when New-Evangelicalism surfaced in the latter 1940’s and early 1950’s, this Anderson, IN based holiness denomination quickly capitulated to its heretical trends that included a practical compromise with and conforming to American society’s declining cultural standards. The school, then known as Anderson College, also followed this downward moral shift.

THE FALLACIOUS RATIONALE FOR THIS CHANGE

The reports noted that Anderson University has been allowing "off-campus dances for [several] years" until the current school year (2007-2008) when University trustees lifted the ban under persuasion from the University Student Association. One AU student stated: "It didn’t make sense that we weren’t allowed to dance on campus, but we had a dance minor and dance classes and other dance opportunities." Senior Ben Titter, the former student body vice-president stated that "the new policy showed that times had changed for the 2,700 student school." Another student was quoted as saying that "It is a step in a more liberal direction, but I don’t think it’s going to corrupt our student body."

According to the various news reports, this "first on-campus dance ever allowed" at this school "attracted several hundred students." Tim Johnson, the school’s "Associate Dean of Students," indicated that "the students’ reasoning resonated with the [school’s] administration." Johnson said: "If we can provide a nice environment for students to dance on campus, and they want to do it, it’s safe."

Johnson’s rationale, based on the errant fallacious foundation that the school should give the students what they want rather than what they need, is another step in that school’s downward pathway to religious apostasy. In the inerrant Scriptures, the O. T. prophets, Christ, and the N. T. apostles did not give the generations to whom they ministered what they wanted, but what they needed!

DECENCY STANDARDS THAT HAVE NO DECENCY

"Student organizers," claimed the "music was in line with university decency standards, with the disc jockey playing songs by Kanye West, Fergie and Kelly Clarkson." The same article also stated that "Justin Timberlake was a favorite, including his hit ‘Sexyback.’" This writer checked all three of the above rock stars’ websites, plus articles that are directly related [not links] to these individuals.

Kanye West

The writer listened to portions of an album by this rock star. Song titles included such labels as "Drunk and Hot Girls," "My Baby" and other songs using sensually suggestive lyrics. On one of those songs, West used the lowest gross term for sexual relations that is humanly possible, at which point this writer immediately terminated the recording and cut off that web site.

Fergie Clarkson

Using discretion, the writer will simply state that the female pictures on this individual’s direct website were inappropriate and when this direct website began to feature photos that he cannot describe, yours truly also immediately terminated this site.

Justin Timberlake

This rock star’s website revealed that Timberlake had recently appeared as a guest on the lesbian Ellen DeGeneres TV program. A review of his recent "Sexyback" song stated that it contained "sexually voracious lyrics, with words that include "I’ll Let you Misbehave." As Timberlake’s video proceeded, the writer turned it off for similar reasons previously stated above. Ed: With the strongest warning possible, this writer exhorts believers not to pursue the websites of rock stars. This writer immediately ceased his search with the above obtained facts.

CONCLUSION

Anderson University (IN) is standing at the open door of religious apostasy, with just another step or two before it enters the unbelieving gates from which it shall never return. This writer imploringly urges all his readers to obtain copies of his recently released highly documented book Why Do Fundamental Schools Go Apostate? and secure copies for Christian relatives and friends as well!
