"CHURCH FILES SUIT TO KEEP

THE MUSIC PLAYING"

"A federal lawsuit has been filed against the township prosecutor, supervisor and heads of the police department alleging that authorities last year threatened a Baptist church and repeatedly raided the sanctuary…for playing music too loud." The suit "charges township officials with conspiracy to deny members of the Faith Baptist Church of Waterford [MI] their freedom and right to religious practice, thereby violating both the state and federal constitutions."

"According to the suit, township police received a complaint of loud music from a neighbor and entered the church at least three separate times…when they detained, interrogated, and seized the driver’s licenses of pastors and church band members." The township supervisor replied that the police were simply "responding to a citizen complaint over loud music." A "civil suit filed by a neighbor against the church" requests a County judge to "restrict the church music’s volume." According to the report, the church’s music "is played on amplified electric guitars and keyboards."

The official "Press Release" from the township police department indicates that the department had received "several complaints by citizens" in the church’s neighborhood "regarding the church’s loud music and parking problems." The police dept. stated that "at no time did our officers raid a service or curtail activities in any manner" while responding to the complaints. The release says that "in none of these incidents were there any raids conducted, arrests made, citations, issued or services disrupted."

The Detroit News, MI, 3-12-2008, 2B Ed: This church is associated with the World Baptist Fellowship [WBF] and claims to be a legitimate Baptist Church, yet it advertises itself a "contemporary inter-denominational church." While this writer basically defends the constitutional right of any church to freely use any music it desires, regardless of its spiritual propriety, this church has obviously accommodated its music to adapt to the compromising contemporizing sounds of the world. In reality, this church is a New-Evangelical entity with a false Fundamental façade!
